· Only 5 out 34 species found in the UK prefer human blood
· 90% of Midge bites in Scotland are from just one species
· Midges are attracted by Carbon dioxide from houses or exhaled breath.
· The Midge is thought to be able to sense a source from 100 metres.
· The peak tourist season directly matches that of the Midge season.
· It is estimated that in some parts of the UK there are 10,000,000 Midges   per acre.
· Outdoor activity centres frequently have to reorganise events and   programmes due to midge attacks
· The range and length of the Midge season is likely to increase as a   result of global warming
